The path is yours!

Walk the streets of Athens and discover the rich history hidden behind its buildings, places and public art. Ordinary places hide extraordinary tales; some may not raise an eyebrow, and that’s okay. Many others will fascinate you.

Pick a place on the map, or let citytales find the one nearest you. Each tale is a card: swipe right for Aha! if you love it, left for Nope if not.

The citytales app was made in 2014 by a group of architects in Athens, with a mission to make architecture accessible.

The team

Iosif Dacoronias–Marina, Heracles Papatheodorou, Dimitris Sagonas, Michalis Stoupakis and Julie Fradelou.

What's new

0.2.9

  • Install it on your phone’s home screen; it opens even with no signal.
  • Search from any page, with how far each place is from you.
  • Leaf through a place’s tales without answering, and share any one of them.
  • Your position on the map, turned by the compass, and the way to what’s near.
  • Collections numbered on the map, and a pointer to the next place once one is read.
  • About thanks everyone who told a tale.

0.1.0

  • A map of Athens with over four hundred places and sixteen hundred tales, in English and Greek.
  • Tale cards: swipe right for Aha!, left for Nope, tap for who told it and where it comes from.
  • What’s near, a tale of the day, search, and trails and collections to explore.
  • My tales: everything you loved, kept in your browser, exportable as Markdown or JSON.
  • Share a single tale, get walking directions, or take back your last answer.
  • Light and dark themes, following your system until you choose.
